How to edit an image for a government form

Four steps, no account and no software to install.

  1. Step 1: Open the right tool

Compressing a photo, resizing a signature and building a passport photo each have their own tool — pick the card that matches what the form is asking for.

  2. Step 2: Upload your photo

Drag and drop a JPG, PNG or WEBP up to 20MB, or browse straight from your phone gallery, Google Drive or Downloads folder.

  3. Step 3: Crop and set the size

Crop, rotate, fix the background and then type the exact pixel dimensions or KB limit your form allows — or tap a ready-made preset.

  4. Step 4: Download and upload it

Check the live preview and size readout, download the finished image, and attach it to your application. Your upload is deleted right after processing.

Why use these image tools

Built for applicants fighting a form’s upload limit at 2am — not for photographers.

  • Hit an exact KB size

Ask for 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB and the compressor works towards that number, instead of leaving you to guess at a quality slider.

  • Presets that match the form

Photo, signature and thumb impression presets follow the dimensions and file sizes SSC, UPSC, Railway, IBPS and state portals ask for.

  • Face-aware passport cropping

The Passport Photo Maker finds the face and centres it for you, so head size and eye level land inside the accepted range without manual fiddling.

  • Clean, plain backgrounds

Swap a messy background for plain white, blue, red or grey — or export a transparent PNG — without any editing skill.

  • Print-ready output

Export a sheet of 4 to 16 passport photos as JPG, PNG or PDF and get it printed at any local studio for a few rupees.

  • Private and free

No sign-up, no watermark and no storage: uploads are deleted immediately after processing, and background removal runs entirely in your browser.

Image tools — frequently asked questions

The questions people ask before uploading their first photo.

How do I compress an image to 20 KB or 50 KB for an application form?

Open the Image Compressor, upload your JPG, PNG or WEBP, and type the size your form allows into the target size field — for example 20 or 50 KB. The tool re-encodes the picture to land at or under that size and shows you the final file size before you download it. Nothing is installed and there is no limit on how many images you can compress.

Which image formats can I upload?

JPG (JPEG), PNG and WEBP files up to 20MB are accepted. You can also convert between them — for example uploading a PNG screenshot and downloading a JPG, which is what most government portals require.

Will compressing my photo make it blurry?

Some detail is always lost when a picture is made smaller, but compression is applied gradually so the image stays as sharp as the target size allows. For a passport-size photo shown at 200 by 230 pixels, a 20 KB to 50 KB file still looks clean on screen and in print. Ask for an unrealistically small size on a large photo and softness becomes visible, so use the size your form actually requires rather than the smallest you can get.

What size should a photo and signature be for a government exam form?

Most Indian recruitment portals ask for a recent passport-style colour photograph of roughly 3.5 by 4.5 cm — about 200 by 230 pixels — as a JPEG between 20 KB and 50 KB, and a signature on white paper between 10 KB and 20 KB. Requirements do vary between SSC, UPSC, Railway, IBPS and state boards, so always confirm the numbers printed in the official notification and then enter them in the tool.

How do I change my photo background to plain white?

Use the Background Remover: upload the photo, let it separate you from the background in your browser, then pick white, blue, red, grey or a custom colour — or download a transparent PNG. The Passport Photo Maker offers the same background choice as part of building the photo, so you do not need both tools.

Can I resize a signature photographed with my phone?

Yes. Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, photograph it straight on in good light, then open the Signature Resizer, crop tight to the signature and pick a preset. You do not need a scanner — a phone photo cropped and cleaned up works for every portal that accepts an uploaded signature.

Do these image tools work on a mobile phone?

Yes. Every tool is fully responsive and works in any modern Android or iOS browser, including selecting a photo directly from your gallery. There is no app to install and no difference in features between mobile and desktop.

Is there a limit on how many images I can process?

No. You can compress, resize and edit as many images as you like, free, without an account. Files are processed one at a time so you can check each result before downloading it.
