How to resize a photo for an exam form

Four steps, no account, nothing to install.

  1. Step 1: Upload your photo

A recent, front-facing colour photo against a plain wall works best. Drop in a JPG, PNG or WEBP up to 20MB, or pick one straight from your phone gallery.

  2. Step 2: Crop and frame the head

Drag a box over the part of the photo you want. The Face Size slider re-frames that crop around your head so it fills the 60–80% of the frame exam specs ask for.

  3. Step 3: Tap the preset your form names

SSC, UPSC, government job, passport and visa sizes are all listed, each carrying its own pixel dimensions and KB limit — or type your own numbers.

  4. Step 4: Check the panel, then download

Indian Jobs Hub checks the result against the preset — dimensions, file size, background — and shows guide lines over the preview, so you can see it will be accepted.

Why use this photo resizer

Built by Indian Jobs Hub for the upload box that keeps saying no — and it pairs with the signature resizer for the rest of the same application.

  • The KB limit comes with the preset

Pick SSC, UPSC, government job, passport or visa and the pixel size and file-size cap are both set for you — no guessing at a quality slider until a portal stops complaining.

  • Head sized the way specs measure it

The Face Size slider re-frames the crop around your detected head so it fills 60–80% of the picture height, with head-top, eye-level and chin guides drawn over the preview.

  • Checked before you download

A validation panel compares the output against the preset and says plainly when a check could not run, instead of showing a green tick it has not earned.

  • Plain backgrounds, in one tap

Swap a busy room for the plain white nearly every recruitment portal wants — or blue, red, gray, black or a custom colour when a notification asks for something else.

  • Private by design

Your photo travels over an encrypted connection and is deleted from the server as soon as it has been processed. No account, no storage, no reuse.

  • Free, with no watermark

No subscription, no per-file charge and no logo across your face — redo it as many times as it takes to match the notification.

Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask before resizing their first exam photo.

How do I resize a photo for a government exam application?

Upload your photo above, drag a crop box around your head and shoulders, then tap the preset your notification names — SSC, UPSC, government job, passport or visa. Each preset sets the pixel dimensions and the KB limit together, so the download is already inside what the portal accepts. The Indian Jobs Hub photo resizer is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark.

My photo must be under 50 KB. How do I get there without it going blurry?

Choose the preset that names your limit rather than shrinking the picture by eye — the tool works towards that byte size while keeping the photo as sharp as it can. A passport-style photo at 200 by 230 pixels still looks clean at 20 KB to 50 KB, because there are not many pixels to describe. Softness only becomes obvious if you force a large, detailed photo far below what its dimensions need, so use the size the form actually asks for.

What photo size do SSC, UPSC, Railway and IBPS forms ask for?

Most Indian recruitment portals want a recent passport-style colour photograph on a plain light background, around 200 by 230 pixels as a JPEG between 20 KB and 50 KB. SSC often specifies a smaller 100 by 120 frame, UPSC allows a wider 20 KB to 300 KB range, and an Indian passport photo is 413 by 531 pixels. All of these are listed as presets here, but requirements change between boards and years, so confirm the numbers in the official notification first.

How much of the frame should my head fill?

Indian exam and passport specifications generally want the head — crown of the hair to chin — to fill about 60 to 80 percent of the picture height, with the eyes a little above the middle. Move the Face Size slider and the crop re-frames around your detected head to land in that window, and head-top, eye-level and chin guide lines are drawn over the preview so you can judge it yourself too.

Does the Face Size slider work in every browser?

It needs the browser’s built-in face detection, which today only Chromium browsers such as Chrome, Edge, Brave and most Android browsers provide. On Firefox and Safari the slider disables itself rather than guessing where your head is, and the head-size and eye-level checks report "can’t verify" instead of a tick. You can still crop by hand using the guide lines, and everything else — presets, backgrounds, compression and downloads — works identically everywhere.

Can I change my photo background to plain white?

Yes. Pick White in the background picker, which is what nearly every recruitment portal expects; blue, red, gray, black and a custom colour are there for the specifications that ask for something else. If the original background is busy rather than merely the wrong colour, run the photo through the Background Remover first to cut yourself out cleanly, then bring it back here to size it.

Which file formats can I upload and download?

JPG (JPEG), PNG and WEBP files up to 20MB are accepted, and you can download in any of the three. That means you can upload a PNG and download the JPEG almost every government portal requires, without needing a separate converter.

Is my photo safe, and does this work on a phone?

Your photo is sent over an encrypted connection, processed on the server, and the upload is deleted immediately afterwards — nobody views or stores it, and it is never used for training or advertising. The tool is fully responsive and works in any modern Android or iOS browser, including choosing a photo straight from your gallery, with nothing to install.
