Thumb Impression Tool

Upload your thumb impression, crop and rotate it, then clean the paper background so only the print shows. Adjust brightness and contrast, resize, and compress to a common 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB preset for SSC, UPSC, Railway, IBPS and other government job forms. Export as JPG or PNG.

How to make a thumb impression for a form

Four steps, no account, nothing to install.

  1. Step 1: Upload your thumb impression

Press your thumb firmly on plain white paper with blue or black ink, photograph or scan it, and drop the JPG or PNG here — up to 20MB, straight from your phone gallery if you like.

  2. Step 2: Crop and straighten it

Drag any rectangle around the print — there is no locked aspect ratio — and rotate it upright, so the paper margins disappear and only the impression is left.

  3. Step 3: Clean the paper background

Background Cleanup whitens the greyish paper behind the ink right in your browser. Raise the strength if the background still looks grey, lower it if faint ridges start vanishing.

  4. Step 4: Pick a size and download

    Tap the 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB preset — 200 × 200, 300 × 300 or 400 × 400 pixels — or enter your own, then export as JPG or PNG.

Why use this thumb impression tool

Built by Indian Jobs Hub for the same form our signature resizer serves — the two uploads that get rejected for being grey or oversized.

  • A clean white background

A phone photo of paper always comes out grey and blotchy. Cleanup whitens everything lighter than the ink, so the impression looks scanned rather than photographed.

  • The sizes forms actually ask for

The 20 KB, 50 KB and 100 KB presets set the pixel dimensions and the file size together, so the download is already inside the limits SSC, UPSC, Railway and IBPS portals accept.

  • Free-form crop and rotate

A thumb impression has no fixed shape, so you drag whatever rectangle fits and straighten a tilted photo — no fighting a square crop window.

  • Checked before you download

A validation panel compares the result against the preset you chose — dimensions, file size and background — so a form is far less likely to reject the upload.

  • Private by design

Cleanup happens on your own device. The finished image travels over an encrypted connection and is deleted from the server as soon as it has been processed.

  • Free, with no watermark

No subscription, no per-file charge and no logo stamped across your impression — redo it as many times as you need to get it clean.

Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask before uploading their thumb impression.

How do I make a thumb impression for an online application form?

Press your left thumb firmly on plain white paper using blue or black stamp-pad ink, photograph or scan it, then upload it here. Crop tight to the print, turn on Background Cleanup to whiten the paper, and tap the 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB preset your form asks for. The Indian Jobs Hub thumb impression tool is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark.

What size should a thumb impression be for SSC, UPSC, Railway or IBPS?

Most Indian recruitment portals ask for a thumb impression as a JPEG somewhere between 10 KB and 100 KB, commonly around 200 × 200 to 400 × 400 pixels on a plain white background. The presets here cover the three usual bands — 20 KB at 200 × 200, 50 KB at 300 × 300 and 100 KB at 400 × 400. Requirements do vary, so confirm the numbers in the official notification and enter them if they differ.

How do I remove the grey background from a photo of my thumb impression?

Turn on Background Cleanup and adjust the strength slider. It whitens every pixel lighter than a threshold to pure white while leaving the darker ink untouched, which is what turns a dull phone photo of paper into something that looks scanned. Raise the strength if patches of grey remain; lower it if faint ridges of the print start disappearing along with the paper.

Do I need a scanner, or is a phone photo enough?

A phone photo is fine, and it is what most people use. Lay the paper flat in bright, even light, hold the camera directly above it so the page is not tilted or shadowed, and fill the frame with the impression. Crop and clean it here afterwards and the result is indistinguishable from a scan for the purposes of an upload form.

Which ink and paper give the best result?

Blue or black stamp-pad ink on plain, unlined white paper. Press once, firmly and evenly, without rolling the thumb — rolling smudges the ridges. A crisp, high-contrast impression cleans up far better than a faint or smeared one, and no amount of adjustment will recover ridges that were never printed clearly.

Which file formats can I upload and download?

JPG (JPEG) and PNG files up to 20MB are accepted, and you can download in either. JPG is what almost every government portal expects; choose PNG only when the form specifically asks for it.

Is my thumb impression safe to upload here?

Background Cleanup runs entirely in your browser, and the finished image is then sent over an encrypted connection to be resized and exported, and deleted from the server immediately afterwards. No account is required, nobody views or stores your impression, and it is never used for training or advertising. As with any biometric image, only upload one you are genuinely submitting to an official form.

Does the thumb impression tool work on a mobile phone?

Yes. The tool is fully responsive and works in any modern Android or iOS browser, including taking the photo and picking it from your gallery in the same session. There is nothing to install and no difference in features between mobile and desktop.
