Almost every Indian government recruitment notification fixes eligibility "as on" a specific day — commonly 1 January, 1 July or 1 August of the exam year — and your age on that date is the one that decides whether you qualify, not your age on the day you apply. The calculator accepts any date, past or future, so you can check next year’s cycle today.

Nothing is rounded. The calculator counts whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over, which is exactly how an age is stated on an application form. Month lengths are used as they really are, so 31 January to 1 March is one month and one day, and leap days are counted where they occur.

Yes. Leap days are counted in every total, so the day and hour figures are accurate rather than assuming 365-day years. If you were born on 29 February, your birthday is treated as 28 February in ordinary years — the date most Indian offices and forms use — so the countdown to your next birthday never skips a year.

It shows how many days remain until your next birthday, the exact date it falls on, the day of the week it lands on, and the age you will turn. The count runs from the date in the "Calculate age on" box, so if you change that date the countdown moves with it.

Because the day you were born on is the thing most people look up next. The sign shown is the western sun sign, worked out from the date alone. It is not your Hindu rashi or nakshatra — those are calculated from the position of the moon and need your exact time and place of birth as well as the date.

It varies by exam, post and category, and it changes from year to year, so always read the age criteria in the official notification for the post you are applying to. Most give a minimum and maximum age "as on" a cut-off date, with relaxation for OBC, SC, ST, PwD and ex-servicemen candidates. What this tool does is give you the exact age on that date so you can compare it with the limits the notification states.
