You can also type a range into the page box under the selected-pages options, where "1-3, 5, 8-10" works as you would expect. Yes. The pages you keep are copied into the new document exactly as they were — nothing is re-compressed, re-encoded or rasterised. Text remains real text that can still be selected and searched, images keep the resolution they had, and fonts, layout and page size are untouched. The one thing that changes is page numbering: if you delete page 3 of a ten-page file, the old page 4 becomes page 3. Numbers actually printed on the page are part of the page image and stay as they were.

No, and the tool will stop you. A PDF must contain at least one page to be a valid file, so a selection that would remove every page is refused before anything is uploaded, with a message explaining why. If you no longer need the document at all, simply delete the file on your own device.

Because the pages you removed take their contents with them. The new file is assembled from only what the surviving pages actually need, so the images, fonts and other data belonging to deleted pages are genuinely gone rather than left orphaned inside the file. Deleting 38 pages of a 40-page scan usually gives back a very small document — and it also means nobody can recover the deleted pages from the file you download.

No. An encrypted PDF cannot be read without its password, so its pages cannot be copied into a new document. Open the file in your PDF reader, remove the password (usually under Protect or Security settings), save a copy, and upload that copy instead. We check for this as soon as you choose a file, so you find out before anything is uploaded.

Page content, images, fonts and page-level annotations such as links are carried over into the new file. Document-level extras — bookmarks or outlines, interactive form fields and named destinations — are not, because a bookmark pointing at a page that no longer exists would be broken rather than useful. If you need a fillable form to stay fillable, keep it whole rather than deleting pages from it.

Delete first, then compress. Take out the pages the form does not ask for, then run the smaller document through our free PDF Compressor to fit the 1MB or 2MB limit most government and university portals impose. Choose "Delete even pages". A duplex scanner produces the front of each sheet on the odd pages and the back on the even ones, so when the backs are blank they are every even page in the file. Check the grid first — the pages about to go are crossed out in red — and if your scan starts with a cover sheet the blanks may fall on the odd pages instead, in which case choose "Delete odd pages".
